Preparing for the End of Your Lease

Follow these steps to prepare for the end of your Lucid lease. This timeline explains what to expect and when, so you can plan ahead while receiving support at every turn.

Step 1: Explore Next steps

Four Months Before Lease End

Approximately four months before your lease termination date, your Lucid Sales Specialist will reach out to discuss your options and finalize your next steps. This early step ensures you’re well informed about everything that is available to you and what additional steps you might need to take, depending on what you decide to do.

Your Sales Specialist will:

  • Share the latest Lucid vehicle offerings, which may include loyalty programs

  • Guide you through your options to lease or purchase your next vehicle

  • Answer questions about timing, process, or what comes next

If you’d like to get in touch sooner, you can always reach out to your Lucid Sales Specialist directly or contact our Sales team at +1 (844) 367-7787. If you decide to proceed with your lease return, the following steps apply.

Step 2: Schedule Your Pre-Lease-End Inspection

Three Months Before Lease End

At least 90 days before your lease-end date, we recommend preparing for and scheduling your complimentary pre-lease-end inspection.

All pre-lease-end inspections are free of charge and completed with OPENLANE (formerly AutoVIN). You can schedule your pre-lease-end inspection online at inspections.openlane.com or by calling +1 (800) 556-2811. The pre-lease-end inspection helps identify any potential wear, damage, or missing items early, giving you time to address them before you return your vehicle. Doing your pre-lease-end inspection during the final 90 days of your lease also helps ensure the report accurately reflects your vehicle’s condition at return.

We also recommend reviewing the Lucid Excess Wear & Use Guidelines to understand what qualifies as normal vs. excess wear and what happens when vehicles are returned with excessive wear.

If you wish to schedule a pre-return repair:

Contact Lucid Customer Care to discuss your options and schedule a service appointment. In some cases, your car insurance may cover a portion of the repair. Confirm eligibility directly with your insurance provider.

Note that Service Center schedules may fill up quickly and certain types of service appointments have lead times of up to several weeks. We recommend scheduling service as early as possible if you plan to make repairs. If you have known repairs, consider making them before your pre-lease-end inspection.

Step 3: Confirm Your Return Appointment

Two Months Before Lease End

Once you've scheduled your pre-lease-end inspection, the next step is to plan your lease return date. To schedule your return, contact your Lucid Sales Specialist directly or reach out to Sales at +1 (844) 367-7787. If your schedule changes and you’re unable to return your vehicle on the scheduled date, your Lucid Sales Specialist can assist with rescheduling.

Returns must take place at an authorized Lucid Service & Delivery Center. Vehicle returns at non-Lucid or third-party locations are not possible. Any vehicles dropped off or “abandoned” at any location, including a Service Center, without a confirmed return appointment will incur additional fees.

Step 4: Prepare Your Lucid

One Week Before Your Return Appointment

Before returning your Lucid, follow these steps to make sure your vehicle is ready for its next journey.

Complete the Pre-Return Checklist

Gather all the items originally provided with your vehicle, including:

  • All key fobs and key cards

  • Printed Owner’s Manuals

  • Any cargo covers, spare tools, and tire kits

  • Charging cables and accessories

  • Any other Lucid-provided equipment (such as adapters or wheel inserts)

All the items that came with your vehicle must be returned with your vehicle during the return appointment. We’re unable to accept items after this appointment, so double-check everything in advance to ensure your return is complete. Any missing items may result in additional charges.

Remove All Personal Belongings

Before turning in your Lucid, double-check all storage compartments, the frunk, and the trunk for any personal items, including charging cards, parking tags, and small accessories.

Restore Factory Settings

Before you drive to your return appointment, reset your vehicle to factory settings to clear all your personal data. To perform a factory reset, your vehicle must be logged in to the owner’s profile, charged to at least 50%, and in Park. To start the reset, go to Settings > Access & Profiles > Advanced Settings > Factory Reset.

Once the reset is complete, your profiles and all settings and preferences will be removed from your vehicle.

Prepare to Return Your Plates

Every state has its own requirements regarding plate return or registration cancellation. Contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or refer to our Frequently Asked Questions for more detailed guidance.

Returning Your Vehicle

On your scheduled return date, you’ll be greeted by a Lucid representative at your Service & Delivery Center who will take you through the final handover process. Here’s what will happen:

Step 1: We’ll verify your identity.

Your Lucid representative will verify your identity to ensure the vehicle is being returned by the authorized lessee or co-lessee. Please bring a valid photo ID, such as your driver’s license.

Step 2: We’ll photograph your vehicle.

Your Lucid representative will take intake photos of your vehicle to record its exterior and interior condition at drop-off. This is not the official post-lease-return inspection, but rather a documentation step to confirm how the vehicle was received.

Step 3: We’ll note your vehicle and accessory details.

Your Lucid representative will record your odometer reading and go through the return checklist mentioned above to check how many key fobs and cards you returned, whether you returned your charging cable and all other accessories as applicable. You will then review and complete the Odometer Disclosure Statement together.

Step 4: We’ll complete and sign your return paperwork.

Your Lucid representative will prepare your return paperwork and sign it, then ask you to sign. You will receive a copy of the completed documents for your records.

Step 5: Final Reminders & Next Steps

  • Remember to complete all of the items in Step 4 above

  • Complete any required DMV steps, such as plate return or registration cancellation, in accordance with your state’s regulations

  • Once the handover is complete, Lucid will request a post-lease-return inspection from OPENLANE to finalize your vehicle’s condition report.

  • Lucid will also notify Lucid Financial Services that your vehicle has been officially returned. This ensures your lease account transitions into the final billing and closure process without delay.

After the Return: Final Inspection & Billing

After we receive your vehicle, OPENLANE will perform the official post-lease-return inspection to evaluate its condition. This inspection determines the final state of the vehicle and the amount of your lease-end bill. Here’s what to expect:

  • OPENLANE will conduct a thorough post-lease-return inspection of your vehicle.

  • You’ll receive an email once the post-lease-return inspection has been completed with a complete inspection report.

  • Any missing equipment or excess wear noted during the post-lease-return inspection will be added to your final lease-end statement.

  • The post-lease-return inspection of your vehicle may identify additional items not present during the pre-inspection. Customers remain responsible for all final lease-end charges.

Disputing Findings or Charges

If you wish to dispute any post-lease-return inspection findings or charges, please wait until your lease-end bill has been issued. Disputes cannot be raised based solely on the inspection report.

If you have questions about your inspection or final bill, see the Contact & Support section below for the right contact information.

Understanding Your Lease-End Inspections

To make sure your lease return inspection is fair and transparent, Lucid partners with OPENLANE for all vehicle inspections.

OPENLANE will complete two separate complementary inspections:

  • A pre-lease-end inspection that you schedule yourself to give you an opportunity to address any issues the inspector finds before your return date, and

  • A post-lease-return inspection that Lucid schedules after your return documentation is signed.

Yes, you may be eligible for a lease extension of up to five months. Contact Lucid Financial Services to confirm your eligibility and extension terms.

Inspections & Returns

A pre-lease-end inspection is optional but highly recommended. It’s completely free and helps identify any potential chargeable damage or excess use before your return, giving you enough time to have it repaired. Schedule yours during the last 90 days of your lease at inspections.openlane.com or by calling +1 (800) 556-2811.

Visit inspections.openlane.com and select Need Help Logging In or call OPENLANE Customer Support at +1 (800) 556-2811.

Pre-lease-end inspections can be done at your home, office, or another convenient location. Post-lease-return inspections occur after return at the Lucid facility or partner site where you turned in your vehicle.

We recommend being available during the pre-lease-end inspection so you can review any findings with the inspector in person. They follow the exact same guidelines as the inspectors doing the post-lease-return inspection. Since the post-lease-return inspection happens after your vehicle is returned, you don’t need to be present.

Absolutely. You may choose to repair any items found during the pre-lease-end inspection before your return appointment. Service appointments can have lead times of several weeks, so it’s best to plan ahead. Some repairs may be covered by your personal insurance, so check with your provider for eligibility.

You can confirm your return once your pre-lease-end inspection is complete or scheduled, ideally 30 to 60 days before your lease ends. All returns must take place at an authorized Lucid Service & Delivery Center.

Yes. Contact your Sales Specialist or Lucid Sales at +1 (844) 367-7787 as early as possible to choose a new time. Avoid leaving the vehicle without confirmation, as this can result in fees.

You’ll present a valid ID, so we know you are a person who is authorized to return the vehicle. A Lucid representative will take photos of your vehicle to document its condition, record mileage, check that all items like key fobs have been returned, and complete all necessary forms.

You’ll review all of these documents together before signing them and receive copies for your records. Lucid will then schedule the post-lease-return inspection and notify Lucid Financial Services that your vehicle has been returned.

Missing equipment will be listed on the inspection report and may result in a charge on your final bill. We recommend rescheduling your lease return if you arrive with missing items on the day of your return.

No. You must return your vehicle to an authorized Lucid Service & Delivery Center after scheduling a return appointment. Vehicles left at any another location or without a confirmed appointment will incur additional fees.

Financial Questions

You’ll receive an email from Lucid Financial Services after the post-lease-return inspection is complete that includes your final bill. It will include a record of any excess wear or mileage, any charges associated with these findings, as well as any outstanding payments.

Follow the payment instructions on your bill or contact Lucid Financial Services at +1 (833) 423-0369 for options.

Any repairs you make before the post-lease-return inspection, such as those identified in the pre-lease-end inspection, may reduce or eliminate final charges on your bill. If you believe something was charged in error, you may file a dispute with Lucid Financial Services and you will have the opportunity to provide proof of any repairs that were completed (invoices, photos, etc.).

Yes. Any mileage over your contracted allowance will appear on your final bill at the rate specified in your lease agreement. The mileage is verified during your vehicle intake.

Depending on your state, you may be responsible for final registration or property tax fees through the end of your lease term.

Any refundable security deposit will be applied toward your final balance. If there is money left over after your account is settled, the remainder will be returned to you.

License Plates & State Requirements

Requirements differ by state. Some states require you to return or transfer your plates to the DMV, while others allow you to keep them. Check directly with your local DMV for your state’s rules before returning your vehicle.

You are responsible for completing any and all required plate or registration steps with your DMV once you return your vehicle. Failure to do so may result in additional charges from your state.

Your return must comply with the registration state’s rules, not your new address. Contact your DMV or Lucid Financial Services for clarification.

Yes. Contact your insurer once your lease is closed to cancel or adjust your policy accordingly.
